In a recent TV segment, Dr. Todd Cevene of Rockford Pain Management explained when a second opinion makes sense.
When should you get a second opinion?
“I think if you’re told there’s only one option for you, then I’m a big advocate of always getting a second or even a third opinion,” Dr. Todd says.
Why doesn’t my MRI match my pain?
“You have to remember an MRI is just a picture,” Dr. Todd says. A car can look great in a picture and still not start. Your scan works the same way. It does not always show how much pain you have, or where it comes from.
How do we find the source?
Through an exam and diagnostic testing. Often it is not one thing. It is several things working together.
Why a team?
Different specialties support different parts of the problem. We work with the joints, the muscles and the inflammation, plus medication if it is needed. Dr. Todd says working this way “typically gets you a better, faster outcome.”
