If arthritis makes every step harder, you do not have to face it alone. In a recent TV segment, Dr. Todd Cevene of Rockford Pain Management explained what osteoarthritis is and how it is treated.
What is osteoarthritis?
“It happens to most all of us as we age,” Dr. Todd says. The joints dry out. The cartilage between the bones gets thinner and thinner. The result is a deep, dull ache.
What does it feel like?
The ache can come and go for days, weeks or months at a time. A joint with arthritis can swell. A knee may pop or grind when you move it.
What can help?
Movement matters. “The more movement you can do to take care of yourself and the muscles around it, the better you’re going to be.”
For knee arthritis, one option is a joint injection called a viscosupplement. We place it with imaging so it goes in the right spot.
